I feel therefore I am

Inspired by Grace Jones’ “I’ve Seen That Face Before” and the quote from her book I Will Never Write My Memoir “I want to fuck every man in the ass. At least once”, this project aims to explore sexuality, norms and gender through clothing, movement, and ultimately the words of a sex worker. How can a body subverse the reality it is forced to live in by simply existing, while simultaneusly declaring and defending its existence unapologetically?

In the patriarchal world that embeds all of our definitions, there is one kind of sex, two genders and no sex work. Outrage permeates anything that falls outside these numbers. A factitious rationality, based on centuries of forgetfulness of the body, forces itself on us, constricting us in a cartesian reality, made out of coordinates. It declares the body superfluous, albeit precisely defined. It declares our reality unwanted, favouring a Platonic world of ideas. Yet, the body keeps existing, claiming the space that the skin encloses and the pleasure it creates.

What is so scary about being outside the lines so carefully, so cruelly drawn for us? Why, in an enclosed world made out of private property, are body autonomy and self determination frowned upon? What is so threatening in a body that sells itself, in a society where everything can be bought?
